This is a fun project. Nkeiruka Oruche is the guest editor for this issue of "In Dance Magazine" and she invited me to write and illustrate a short personal experience relating to dance. When she asked me to participate my first thought was that I'm not a dancer but she wanted a mix of folks. Those whose creative practice it is to dance and those who've danced at some point in life, which I think is most of us.

I had fun doing this and I'm thankful to writer, dancer, editor, multi-disciplinary artist @nkorigible for inviting me:). And @dancersgroupsf which features a variety of folks from the Bay and nationally, regular folks and dancers of course with some interesting stories about family, tradition, culture, institutions, and lots of opportunities to move your body. Great time visiting “Black Pine Circle” school in Berkeley!

Posted @withregram • @blackpinecircle On Friday morning, the Lower School welcomed author, illustrator, artist, and changemaker Robert Liu-Trujillo (@robert_tres)! Robert is the author and illustrator of “Furqan’s First Flat Top” and has illustrated many books such as:
- “A Bean and Cheese Taco Birthday”
- “One of a Kind, Like Me”
- “Alejandria Fights Back! ¡La Lucha de Alejandria!”
His more recently released art book, “Art of Rob,” features his work from 2015-2020. Thank you for sharing your stories with us, Robert!

At lunchtime, 5th graders hosted the Lower School ¡Fiesta! - this student-led event featured a craft market in the library and food for students and faculty to sample. We had everything from agua fresca and arroz con leche to guacamole & chips! The delicious food was prepared by 5th graders learning Spanish, and all 5th graders made a number of beautiful crafts to help raise money for a non-profit organization.

Fun-Taking some drawing classes because why not improve? Took an old drawing from 2010 and 2011 and redrew it. The Tony Bancroft prompt was to add a line of action, a curve. I think it came out well, tried to keep it loose. Back to work.

What is Ethnic Studies? Ethnic Studies for those who don’t know is an organized curriculum of books, films, lectures, music, and culture that explore all that US and American history left out about African Americans, Latin@S, Native Americans, and Asian Americans. It now includes curriculum about Middle Eastern Americans, and sometimes LGBTQ studies as well. I’m a product of ethnic studies and i’m very proud to support ethnic studies curriculum all over the US in EVERY SCHOOL.
