artists I dig Tag

Inspiring Artist – Alberto Mielgo (NSFW)

Can’t remember when I came across Mielgo’s work. Maybe through Tron, not sure. He’s worked on so many films. But I love his oil paintings, the nudes, the digital backgrounds, the character designs. All of it. If you’re in a public place you might not want to look at these right now. Wait until you’re home 🙂 Enjoy and check out his site here.

If you enjoyed these paintings, I have shared artwork from a bunch of other artists whose work really inspires me! The last artist I shared that really inspired me is photographer Jamel Shabazz

Inspiring Artist – Jamel Shabazz

This is Jamel Shabazz, one of the illest photographers to hold a camera. He’s a former corrections officer and a portrait photographer who captured so many aspects of NYC, hip hop, and Black and Brown culture in the 80s. And he’s still shooting today. I’ve known about him since I saw his books

Doesn’t matter what genre you work in, check out Jamel’s work. Check out his books for free from your local library, unplug, and get into it. Peep some more below.

Here’s a recent interview he did w/ OG Black Thought.

Did you see the last inspiring artist I shared here? Peep Afu Chan

Inspiring Artist-Rudy Gutierrez

Rudy Gutierrez is one of my favorite painters ever. I first came across his work in a picture book someone got for my son called “Papa and Me”. I fell in love with the colors and energy he gives to a piece. Since then he’s done countless picture books, album covers, and more. I believe he uses a mixture of media, oil, pastels, acrylic, etc. Follow him on Instagram or check out his website. Rudy is an Boricua from NYC i believe. I have told him how much I dig his work and I invite you to look him up.

RIP Roy Hargrove
Did you see the work of Shinji Kimura?

Inspiring Artist – Shinji Kimura

Shinji Kimura is one of my most favorite artists. I started following his work after seeing the film TekkenKinkreet based on a Taiyo Matsumoto manga. His background drawings and paintings for that film blew me away. He is the art director and lead set designer for Studio 4c (Japanese Anime studio) and he also directs and does book illustration. The dude is  in his 60s I believe and worked on the original Akira film. Check out some of his work.

Inspiring Artist – Syd Mead

Much respect and rest in peace to the great artist Syd Mead. If you don’t know his work by name you’ve probably seen it in films before. Just wanted to share some of his amazing work. Props!
