Everyday Advocacy-Positive video testimony

I was informed about this organization doing some great work to inform everyday folks about the work that educators, teachers, and advocates for literacy do to bring fresh and diverse stories to class rooms. They also provide resources for educators. On their Youtube you can see a varety of different writers sharing their expertise or experiences and they play a key role in helping parents and community members understand what real life teachers are and are not doing in the classroom.

Watch them explain here:

School Visit-Garden Village

This past week I got the chance to visit a school out in Daly City CA called Garden Village for #ReadAcrossAmerica week. Ive been to a few San Francisco schools but never to Daly City to read so this is new territory. I spoke to a class of Kindergarten students and 4th graders. Its was lots of fun and the kids had great energy and questions. I hope to make it out there again soon.

School and Library Visits: I’ve been visiting students as a storyteller since 2012 yall. I started as an illustrator first and then I became an author. I visit many schools every single year. I’ve been all over the Bay Area and Ive read to students in California, Texas, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, and Ohio. At this point I’ve visited over 100 libraries and schools. Recently I put out the call to visit more cities in Northern and Central California. If you’d like to invite me to visit your school or library in the Bay or outside of it, I’m open to travel! Shoot me an email at info@robdontstop.com

AALBC Honor- Best 100 Black Children’s Books

This is the second time I’ve had the honor of having one of my books on the AALBC 100 best Black books list! Aalbc is one of the oldest websites supporting Black authors, bookstores, and a larger literary community. A stamp of approval from them is pretty awesome!

Ok, here you can see “Fresh Juice” included among a bunch of picture books, middle grade, and YA book written and /or illustrated by Black authors. I see a bunch of familair names there as well as some Bay Area friends such as Tiffany Golden, Maya Cameron Gordon, Angela Dalton, and Jessica Jones.

My book read by Da’Vine Joy Randolph

Ey, this is some pretty cool news to wake up to. Back a few months ago Storyline reached out to me and my publisher about including my book in their read aloud series, but I didn’t know it would be like this. Watch this video-check out the high production quality, the animation, and the talents of actor Da’Vine Joy Randolph who did an amazing job reading it.

Huge shout out to the marketing team at Lee and Low, Storyline Online, The Sag Aftra Foundation, my agent Marietta Zacker, the film production and editing crew, the animation team who made my characters move, all the orgs and actors involved with spreading literacy and a joy for reading, and of course and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
