Love & Basketball (2000)- Movies I Love 4

Gina Prince-Bythewood is a great director. I’ve seen the majority of her film work and this is one of my favorites of her films. It’s rare that I’ve seen a love story like this about an athlete that puts a young Black woman front and center. Not only as the awkward love interest but as a force of strength and power on the court. If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it. Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps are incredible in this and it came out when I started college. Watch the trailer.
Did you miss the last Movie? O Homem Que Copiava.
If you loved this film and want to see more like it I suggest Beyond The Lights! And peep, this film will be re-released this year w/ a new documentary and commentary by the director herself as a Criterion collection Blue Ray.
What is this? This is a part of my blog where I share my favorites films. I enjoy them for their pacing, action, comedy, drama, lighting, acting, score, so many things. I grew up as a lover of cinema going with my parents, friends, and by myself. I’m no scholar but I bet I could find a movie we both love to talk about. Stay tuned for more…..

O Homem Que Copiava (2003) – Movies I Love 3

I saw this film a long time ago via Netflix when it was a service that sent you dvd’s in the mail that you watched and then sent back. Yes, I’m that old, haha. But for real, the awesomeness of this film reminds me that I need to watch more foreign cinema. Without spoiling too much I’ll say this is about a stalker, a heist, and human connection. Please check out the trailer and watch it!!
The last movie I mentioned that I love is “Mo Better Blues” by Spike Lee.

Mo’ Better Blues (1990) – Movies I Love 2

Possibly my favorite Spike Lee film. Or at least in the top 3. This is a love story with a whole lot of good music. Check out this article where the two leading ladies Indigo and Clark talk about the film in retrospect, as this film is 30 years old y’all!
So much to say about Denzel’s smooth status in this. His confidence and his flaws. There’s a lot in this about Brooklyn of course. And a ton about friendship and ART! I love the little nods to Trane, to the Five percenter’s, to colorism, monogamy, sexism, and the consumption of Black Art. Please watch this if you’re a fan of Spike, Jazz, or Black Artists.
Watch the trailer, and listen to the soundtrack!!!!! Bradford Marsalis, Bill Lee, they all do their thing on it!

Check out my last fav movie: RAD

RAD (1986) – Movies I love

LOVE this movie. Always have. I didn’t see it in theaters because I was probably too little (1986) but I watched the vhs of this over and over and over again. Its is one of my all time favorite films ever. Still holds up. And you can now own it digitally which is dope. Cop it on digital platforms.
This is a great film about skill, talent, practice, love of your craft (in this case-riding bmx), redemption, and being an underdog. This film made me want to ride, and I did. For hours and hours, days and days. I felt freedom on my bike and always feel super inspired when watching this. The cult fandom of this flick is super deep and loyal too! And the soundtrack is dope-an eclectic mix of 80s synth rock from the US and the UK.

Here’s an indy film I worked on: Transfinite
