School Library Journal- Art of Rob

Hey, its not everyday you get an art book featured in “School Library Journal”, but that’s what happened on my birthday no less. Sujei Lugo , a librarian, Pura Belpre committee member, activist, and avid book blogger for places like Latinx In Kid and School Library Journal just reviewed Art of Rob!! If you didn’t catch the “Art of Rob” kickstarter, this is a 130 page book of my sketches, drawings, paintings, characters, and more. I made it for anyone who loves art books, but especially for young aspiring artists:)

Check out the other kids books on the list, including my good friend Innosanto Nagara’s “A is for Activist”. LINK

Latinxs in Kid Lit

is a book blog hat focusing on Latinx centered stories and bilingual books. Please check them out, they have YA, Middle grade, and picture books there. And this is the fourth or fifth time I’ve gotten to be featured in some way on their blog. Love them! Subscribe to their blog.

At Home librarian
is an awesome blog run by one mom who is passionate about books in general and very passionate about diverse books coming from a lot of different backgrounds. Please check out her review and all the other books she talks about.

For those of you new to the book, One of a kind like me is a picture book written by Laurin Mayeno and illustrated by me Robert Liu-Trujillo. Here is the synopsis of the story: Tomorrow is the school parade, and Danny knows exactly what he will be: a princess. Mommy supports him 100%, and they race to the thrift store to find his costume. It’s almost closing time. Will Danny find the costume of his dreams in time? One of A Kind, Like Me / Unico como yo is a sweet story about unconditional love and the beauty of individuality. It’s a unique book that lifts up children who don’t fit gender stereotypes, and reflects the power of a loving and supportive community. The book is written by Laurin Mayeno, illustrated by Robert Liu-Trujillo, and translated by Teresa Mlawer.

Furqan’s First Flat Top UPDATE 12 – Great Blog reviews

Yoo, so far I have been reaching out to media, blogs, radio, and tv. It is super difficult to get a review with anyone and some people just flat out don’t get it. And many in the publishing world don’t care, which explains why it looks the way it does as a whole. It’s ok the change is coming and I will continue to seek out those who “get it” because I know they’re out there. Case in point, here are two awesome book reviews; one who I reached out to and one that came to my story. So much gratitude to these two great bloggers/ book lovers.

1. At Home Librarian! By Elizabeth Wroten

This is such an awesome blog with tons of book reviews of all types of books. Grateful for Elizabeth’s words because she “gets it”.
2. The Nerds of Color by Shawn Taylor
Wow, I have been following this blog for quite awhile and love that they pull no punches in calling out bullshit and at the same time highlighting and celebrating great work. Shawn “gets it” too.
Please check out both of these blogs and share the posts that you like.
