Children’s Portrait 78 – Jidan & Bryant’s family

Hey, here is the latest children’s portrait. Typically I paint one child at a time. At the most, maybe two kids. But occassionally I get to paint a family!! Love this family, they are awesome and beautiful just being themselves but they have not only contributed some great work to this world as organizers, artists, parents, and writers; but they have helped me grow. As an artist and as a person.

Check out the painting process. Typically I do a sketch directly on the wood or trace a photgraph and redraw it on wood.

Slowly building up tone and contrast with acrylic paint on wood panel.

Then, I began building up skin tone values, shading, and hair bit by bit. Its painteed with acrylic so i can add light or dark if I need to. But i prefer to build up color and contrast slowly.

This is the final painting as it was delivered. Check out Jidan and Bryant‘s work. If you’d like to get a child or family painted for a portrait please hit this link up.

Children’s Portrait collage (5) – 2020-2022

What up? This is a collage of children’s and family portraits I’ve painted over the past two years. I started these paintings in 2012 before I self published “Furqan’s First Flat Top” as a way to generate income to make the book and to let parents know that I planned to make my own children’s book. You can see me talk about it in this video from 2012.

Since publishing the book, I continued and I like painting them. They provide value to parents, grandparents, caregivers, etc and I think they’re a cool gift idea for the holidays or special occasions. I’ve painted whole families, newborns, kids, and teens. And I plan to continue doing it.

Children’s Portrait 64 – Belen’s Fam

Here’s a recent painting I finished for Belen, daughter and sister to this family. This was a fun challenge, taking several poses and making them into one painting.

Children’s Portrait collage (4) – 2017-2020

Here’s the latest collage of children’s portraits. This collage spans from 2017-2020. I definitely slowed down a bit on these portraits recently but I’m gaining steam again. These are one of a kind, hand painted portraits that I started painting in 2012 to put out the word that I was working on a children’s book. 8 years and 8 published kids books later and I’m still painting these. And having fun with them since they help me sustain myself as an artist and they provide a service to you. People have commissioned these for parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, partners, and friends.

Children’s Portrait 55-56- Cinthya & Kids

Just did a new family portrait of my good friend Cinthya and her babies who are not so little anymore. The family loves nature and I decided to combine that with their favorite colors. Several years ago I painted her oldest child Tlanextli. Check out the painting process below.

Children’s Portraits 53-54 – Mila & Zenzi

Wow, I was so enveloped in new bebe world with my daughter that I forgot to post these paintings I did last year! So these sisters are African American and Chinese. They are super sweet, smart, kind, and beautiful. And their parents are friends of the family.
If you’re interested in getting a portrait commissioned, please go to my store or on etsy. I have done over 60 portraits of children since 2012 I believe and it is always a fun gift to give to a parent, grandparent, or loved one.

Children’s portrait 44 – Zulu

I don’t know this young man personally but this was one of the portraits commissioned awhile ago for a kickstarte campaign I ran. This and a copy of my book was a gift for the contribution.  If I recall though, this little one is both Chicano (dad) and African American (mom). His name? I’m glad you asked! He was named after the Zulu Nation (Hip hop community started in the BX, now world wide) and the legendary Shaka Zulu.
If you or someone you know is interested in commissioning a portrait of a child, please tell them to email me at info@robdontstop.com or check out my Etsy page for rates.

Children’s portrait 43- Lucy

This is Lucy! She’s about 5 or 6 I think and she’s a hapa baby. Dad is from Germany and mom is Chinese American. She loves orange, yellow, and red and some symbols of her heritage are in the fabric of her shirt. She has a beautiful smile, no?
