Children’s Portrait 80 – Dream

Fam, its been a minute since I shared a children’s portrait and this is number 80! This is a portrait of a young boy named Dream. His mom and family have been supporters of my creative work for over a decade from books to portraits. I painted her oldest child ZULU back in 2017! Dream is his younger bro 🙂

Check out this video timelapse of me painting him as well as some process shots below.

I haven’t done many of these time lapse videos but I’ve been getting more and more comfortable using my phone to document my work and doing a low lift like this is a step forward. I import short videos into I-Movie and cut them together in a way that was but it is no longer challenging. Link to watch.

Some shots of the painting process.

Children’s Portrait 79 – O

Yo, got to paint this little one right before the holidays last year and forgot to share it! I only do a few children’s portraits a year but when I do its always fun because these are original pieces of art that will be in someone’s home! Thats big! This little one is a mixed kid w/ a family from the Midwest and it was a joy to paint him. Shout out to the friends who commissioned this for their folks as a house warming gift. Here’s some process below.

Children’s Portrait collage 2022-2024

Thanks for checking out my blog. This is a collage of children’s portraits I’ve been commissioned to paint in the last 2 years. It used to be that the bulk of these paintings were individual children, but lately I feel like there have been a lot more siblings and families. I also used to incorporate more of the child’s ethnicity in the clothing, but over the past 3-4 years I’ve really enjoyed just playing with color and pattern. Check them out.. I paint each one by hand, no AI lol.

If you’d like me to paint a child in your life for you or as a gift to someone else, please check out this link.

And while I’ve got your attention, check out some of the collages from previous years:

Children’s Portrait 78 – Jidan & Bryant’s family

Hey, here is the latest children’s portrait. Typically I paint one child at a time. At the most, maybe two kids. But occassionally I get to paint a family!! Love this family, they are awesome and beautiful just being themselves but they have not only contributed some great work to this world as organizers, artists, parents, and writers; but they have helped me grow. As an artist and as a person.

Check out the painting process. Typically I do a sketch directly on the wood or trace a photgraph and redraw it on wood.

Slowly building up tone and contrast with acrylic paint on wood panel.

Then, I began building up skin tone values, shading, and hair bit by bit. Its painteed with acrylic so i can add light or dark if I need to. But i prefer to build up color and contrast slowly.

This is the final painting as it was delivered. Check out Jidan and Bryant‘s work. If you’d like to get a child or family painted for a portrait please hit this link up.

Children’s Portrait 77 – Stella

Here’s a new portrait of Stella, commissioned by her Mama Sarah. And they have a cool tradition where the young ladies in her family take a photo with the exact same dress on when they get to be 5 or 6 years old. This is her sister’s portrait Eva.

What is this? Wow, we’re at number 75! I’ve been doing these portraits for about 10 years. Not rushing, taking my time, etc. But through family, friends, and community I have been able to keep making these gifts. I paint these by hand, each one unique from photo reference provided by parents, caregivers, grandparents, aunties, uncles, etc. If you’d like to commission a portrait of a kid or a family go here

Children’s Portrait 73 – Malayah

Here’s a portrait I painted recently of this cutie named Malayah, commissioned by her Papa for Mama. Funny story, i actually met this child at a kids book reading I was doing right before I painted her 🙂

What are these? These are children’s portraits I paint custom for aunts, uncles, moms, dads, care givers, families and more. I’ve been painting them for nearly a decade. They’re fun to paint and unique ways of giving someone a gift. Although the majority of these are of children and families, I paint young adults and adults too.
